The Miami Marlins will be hosting the New York Mets on Friday night. The Mets topped the Marlins on Thursday, 5-3, with outfielder Brandon Nimmo providing a go-ahead double in the 7th to give the Mets the lead for good. New York is expected to contend for the NL East division again after they won 101 games in 2022, losing out on the division title at the very end. Miami is coming off a 69-93 season, and they haven’t made a ton of major additions. The Mets have now won four of their past five versus the Fish, so we’ll see if they can keep dominating their division rivals on Friday.
Mets vs. Marlins Betting Odds
Team | Spread | Total | ML |
New York Mets | -1.5 (+140) | Over 7.5 (-120) | -120 |
Miami Marlins | +1.5 (-165) | Under 7.5 (+100) | +100 |
Miami will tab Jesus Luzardo, who had a solid 3.32 ERA and 1.04 WHIP last year. The southpaw hasn’t had great success versus the Mets in his career, as he holds a 5.40 ERA against New York in four career starts, spanning 20 innings. The Mets’ lineup is pretty deep, but they were a lot better against righties this year, so we’ll see if that comes into play on Friday. New York’s lineup features Francisco Lindor, Starling Marte, and Pete Alonso, as well as new addition Tommy Pham, so on paper, their lineup is up there with any other NL team.
David Peterson will be starting for the visitors Friday. He finished with a 7-5 record, with a 3.86 ERA in 19 starts. This Marlins offense was awful against lefties last year, ending with a .598 OPS versus southpaws, by far the worst mark in the majors. They did add All-Star Luis Arraez and Jean Segura, so Miami is better suited this year, as they also have young star Jazz Chisholm right in the middle of the lineup as well.

New York Mets vs. Miami Marlins Betting Prediction
The Mets have been great against the Marlins in recent history, but Friday’s pitching matchup is pretty even. Luzardo didn’t get a lot of run support last year, but his WHIP was really low, which is a great sign. New York did hit Luzardo well, though, and they should get to him again on Friday, at least enough to lead after five innings. Also, the over has hit in six of the last six meetings between these two, so that trend should continue.
