Zac Gallen was among the best pitchers in the Nation League last season, posting a 2.54 ERA and 0.913 WHIP in 184 innings. He finished fifth in Cy Young Award voting and even put together a stretch of 44.1 scoreless innings in the middle of the season. More importantly, he has shown little difference in his home and road splits and is 1-0 with a 1.42 ERA in six starts during the first month of the season.
Gallen started twice last season against the Dodgers, surrendering just one run in 14 innings of work with a stunning 0.429 WHIP. He owns a 2.10 ERA at Dodgers Stadium for his career but remains winless in those four starts.
Julio Urias will get the nod on opening day for the Los Angeles Dodgers, and deservingly so, considering he finished third in Cy Young voting in 2022. The lefty was spectacular, posting a league-best 194 ERA+. He also went 17-7 with a 2.16 ERA and 0.960 WHIP. It was his second consecutive season finishing in the top ten in Cy Young Award voting.
Urias is slightly worse pitching in his home ballpark, but he still has a beautiful 2.95 ERA at Dodgers Stadium. He is a career 6-2 with a 3.00 ERA in 16 games during the season’s first month. He has downright dominated the Dbacks in his career, going 7-1 with a 1.71 ERA in 52 innings.
Like Gallen, he owned his upcoming opponent last season but remained winless, although he had a 0.79 ERA in 11 innings pitched.
