Playoff races are fun, and 2023 has one that is sure to come to the wire. However, a surprise contender is surging late and looking to nab the final spot. That team highlights today’s MLB best bets, as every team is down to 10 or fewer games.
MLB Best Bet #1: Minnesota Twins -2.0 (+103)
First up will be the Twins, who can clinch the AL Central with a win. Preseason trade acquisition Pablo Lopez is on the mound, and he held the Angels to two runs over 6.0 innings when he faced them last. Minnesota is leading the majors in scoring this month.
Meanwhile, the Angels are the lowest-scoring MLB team in September. All of their big names are injured. They’ve been a poor pitching team all season and have a rookie with 3.0 career innings starting tonight. The Twins will win easily to clinch the division.
MLB Best Bet #2: San Diego Padres -1.5 (+120)
Hit pieces about this team started coming out, but the Padres aren’t dead yet. San Diego is only 4.0 games out of the NL’s final wild-card spot. They owe it all to a seven-game winning streak.
Meanwhile, the eliminated Cardinals are visiting them this weekend amid a three-game losing streak. St. Louis is another team that struggles on the mound, facing a Padres lineup that’s second in scoring this month. The Padres will club their way to eight straight at home.
MLB Best Bet #3: Tigers @ Athletics Under 8.0 (-115)
When the two lowest-scoring teams in the majors meet, don’t expect a lot of runs. When that game is in Oakland’s pitcher-friendly park, don’t anticipate any at all. That’s exactly what’s in store with Tigers vs. Athletics tonight.
Oakland’s Ken Waldichuk held the Tigers to two runs the first time he faced them. Detroit’s Sawyer Gipson-Long has only given up three runs through his first 10.0 innings as an MLB pitcher. This game won’t feature much offense.
