The Iowa State Cyclones will take on the West Virginia Mountaineers on Monday in an all-Big 12 affair. Iowa State is 17-11, and they have lost three straight, most recently coming up short against Oklahoma on Saturday. West Virginia is down to 16-13, and they’re coming off a hard-fought loss to #3 Kansas. Earlier this month, WVU squeaked out a five-point win over the Cyclones, so we’ll see if the hosts can get their revenge tonight.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Iowa State Cyclones Key Stats
West Virginia is averaging 108.9 points per 100 possessions, and senior Erik Stevenson has been their best player this season. Stevenson averages 14.9 points while converting 39.5% of his 5.6 three-point attempts per game. The Mountaineers have been awful in conference play at 5-11, and they’ve dropped four of their last five. During this stretch, their defense has been to blame, but they’ve also been sloppy with the ball, most recently committing 21 turnovers against Kansas. Tonight, they’ll need to execute better to overcome a good Iowa State defense.
Iowa State is a team that forces their opposition into a lot of mistakes, as they currently force 17 turnovers per game. They also hold teams to just 41.9% from the field, but they’ve been awful lately on offense, which has really hurt them. Over their previous five, the Cyclones are shooting just 37% from the field while averaging 57 points per game. Their best scorers are seniors Jaren Holmes (13.0 PPG) and Gabe Kalscheur (12.3 PPG), but they’ve been in a slump too. West Virginia isn’t a great defensive school, so this is an opportunity for Iowa State to break out of their shooting funk.
West Virginia Mountaineers vs. Iowa State Cyclones Betting Prediction
These teams are pretty evenly matched, and on the year, both are right around .500 against the spread. The Mountaineers were able to defeat the Cyclones at home this year despite being outrebounded, and they should be high on confidence after hanging with Kansas. Back West Virginia here to at least cover, given Iowa State’s recent shooting struggles and because they’re not a great rebounding team.
Prediction: West Virginia +5.5 (-120)
