Northwestern Wildcats vs. Maryland Terrapins Key Stats
Northwestern has struggled this year efficiency-wise, as they’re shooting only 40.8% entering today’s contest. Fortunately, their defense has been excellent all year long and is the reason why they’re ranked so highly. The Wildcats average 8.1 steals and 4.2 blocks collectively, and on top of that, they hold teams to 40.8% from the field and 32.9% from three. Their defensive intensity will be critical down the stretch, with selection Sunday not too far away.
Offensively, Northwestern has Boo Buie, who averages 17.6 points and 4.4 assists. The senior guard has been the center of the Wildcats’ offense, and he especially stands out with his passing ability. Chase Audige is second on the team in scoring (14.5 PPG), and he accounts for 2.5 steals per game, which is very impressive. Recently, efficiency has been poor for the visitors, so we’ll see if they can create easier looks today.
Maryland is a solid offensive school, averaging over 108 points per 100 possessions. The Terrapins are led by Jahmir Young’s 16.1 points, and in addition to Young, four other players average over 11 PPG. Maryland shot an outstanding 68% from the field last game, and while this won’t be the norm, we’ll see if they can use this performance as a jumping-off point. Defensively, the Terrapins have held teams to poor shooting, which can be huge for them, especially against tougher teams. Consistency has held back Maryland a bit this year, and while they’ve still had a solid season, there is room for improvement.
Northwestern Wildcats vs. Maryland Terrapins Betting Prediction
Both teams sit at 18-10 against the spread, and Northwestern has rattled off six straight covers. The Wildcats are also an excellent 7-2 ATS on the road, and while they lost their last game, they were able to cover against a good Illinois team. Maryland has the upper hand here at home, and they should win, but because both teams are really good defensively, expect a tight contest. Back Northwestern to cover here before they head back home, as they’ve been great ATS, particularly in the ACC.
Prediction: Northwestern +6.5 (-110)
