Creighton Bluejays vs. San Diego State Aztecs Key Stats
Creighton is a solid offensive team, and they’re coming off a game against Princeton where they shot 58.2% from the field. Not only did the Bluejays knock down their shots at an efficient clip, but they remained productive at all three levels, which will be key again tonight. Leading scorer Ryan Kalkbrenner dominated Princeton, dropping 22 points on 12 shots, increasing his season points per game average to 15.9. Outside of Kalkbrenner, four Bluejays average at least 11.8 points, and this scoring balance has propelled them to this stage. Defensively, Creighton holds teams to just 42% shooting overall, and it seems like their only potential downfall would stem from a poor defensive performance, more so than cold shooting.
San Diego State is fresh off a major upset, and their defense has been arguably the best among all teams in this tournament. Alabama shot just 32.4% against SDSU, and in all three games, the Aztecs have held teams under 33% shooting, which is incredible. On offense, senior guard Darrion Trammell exploded for 21 points on 9-for-16 shooting, and along with leading scorer Matt Bradley (12.8 PPG), these two should be featured heavily on Sunday. At the moment, there aren’t any glaring weaknesses for the Aztecs besides the fact that they lack prolific scorers compared to Creighton.
Creighton Bluejays vs. San Diego State Aztecs Betting Prediction
San Diego State has proven that they’re no fluke, and now they’ve won seven straight and covered five straight entering Sunday. The Bluejays are red-hot too, and they’re 6-1 ATS in their last seven. Because we’ve seen SDSU’s defense cause problems for Alabama, who was the favored team before the Sweet 16, expect the Aztecs to do the same to Creighton here. This seems like a game that could come down to the final possession, so back SDSU to cover here, even if they don’t advance.
Prediction: San Diego State +2.5 (-115)
